About

For starters… I’m a thirty something year old wanderer, programmer, traveller and wannabe photographer…turned nomadic blogger?

As a “wanderer”, I enjoy taking things slow.  I typically do not plan extensively where to go, what to see and when do it.  Generally take it as it comes and avoid rushing around to get it all in.  While I’m a tad too antsy to sit around for days on a beach, I can easily spend hours reading my Kindle or working on a laptop at a local cafe.

As a programmer, I work primarily on building websites / CMSs for clients.  Lately I have been working mostly with the open source Drupal framework/cms, focusing primarily on back-end integrations.   In my free time, I tend to dabble more with of the artistic side of things.

As a traveller, I try to immerse myself into whatever location I am in.   This means that I don’t necessarily follow the guidebook for the best places to eat, and best sights to focus on and try and do so within a 5 day sprint. This doesn’t mean I avoid the “touristy” places during my time in a location, nor does it mean to suggest that I don’t bother with books such as those put out by Lonely Planet before checking a place out. When limited to a shorter period of time, I merely try to pace things such that i get to enjoy things a pace that which a local might if they had the day off. Preferably I look to spend extended periods of time at a location in an effort to get a true sense of what it would be like to live there long term, and who knows…maybe doing so.

As a “wannabe” photographer, I’ve spent more time looking to capture the heart and soul of a location, and telling its story though the lens of a camera.  Besides improving how I frame a shot, then take it, I also look to learn the various effects that tools such as Photoshop provide.  While I’m personally not the biggest fan of overly processed photography, I do think that tools such as Photoshop have their uses and can extend the creativity in several directions.

Finally, where will this all lead? I haven’t a clue. But as several others out there, I do look to continue adventures around the world, documenting them as best I can.
