hanalei valley under normal conditions
Hanalei valley on the north shore of Kauai is one of the most picturesque places on an island full of postcard worthy scenery. The taro crops at the base of the valley contrast with the darker green of the forrest above.
Late last week, the scene in this area changed. November is traditionally the rainiest month on the island, so heavy rain is nothing out of the ordinary. The rain that fell last week though was anything but ordinary. 17 inches alone fell in the Hanalei valley, never mind how much more in the mountains up above. The result was a scene much different.
