A view of Waimea Canyon from on top of one of the many waterfalls in the region.   Known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon is located on the far west side of the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Formed by the Waimea River cutting through the mountain as a result of the extreme amount of rain that falls on Mt. Wai’ale’ale, known as the wettest place on earth.

The canyon is breathtaking, especially when you consider the size of the island in comparison.  Besides merely driving through parts of the canyon for some picture postcard shots, the area also provides an endless supply of hiking trails to explore.
