Destination Kauai!

After a little over four years of living on manhattan’s west side, I’ve decided that it was time for a change.   It was time to try the island lifestyle… aloha style.   Sure, manhattan is an island, and so is Long Island (where i grew up and spent the majority of my life up to this point), but they are different.  They are different in so many ways, not just from Hawaii, but from anywhere else in the country.   And it is with this knowledge, that I’ve set out to test my senses, test my ability to adapt and willingness to venture into unchartered territories of life.
Yesterday morning (saturday), began much like friday had ended… packing things away and throwing stuff out.  Even living what I would have deemed sort of a minimalistic lifestyle, it is amazing how much stuff can be packed away into a small apartment.  Sure, a lot of it is useless to me personally, and could be thrown out or donated, but what to do with all the items that actually do hold value.   Do i really need a ski jacket and extra winter coats when going to a location which is always in the 80s?  Probably not.  What about that entire collection of pots, pans and bakeware?  Not likely to be cost effective to carry on the plane or ship.   Lastly, let us not forget about all those things which may or may not hold financial value, but definitely hold some personal value, those things quickly add up over time.    Needless to say, shifting through everything and finding a new home for it all definitely takes time and a lot more effort then you probably think about initially.
After all the apartment was cleared out, and the bags were packed, it was time to get beemed over to “paradise”.
Alright, so we’re not in the Star Trek era just yet, and this beeming took nineteen hours, which included three flights, two layovers, one delay and several great conversations with passing strangers about respective journeys, but get to Kauai I did.   Is it paradise, time will tell.   But a couple of things are for certain; the landscape is beautiful, the people are nice, the chocolate covered macadamias are to die for and my new home has wifi… So all is right with the world at this very moment.
More to come on day one, of phase two, of this thing called my nomadic life.
